What If...?
How do you know what fascinates youth? Simply ask them. This is the inspiration used to create the "What If...?" gallery located on Lower Level of The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. Work on the exhibit began when more than 1,000 Marion County youth were asked, "If you could explore anything, what would it be?" Their top three answers evolved into the three different learning environments found in "What If...?"
While exploring the three immersive environments of a brightly colored underwater coral reef, a dinosaur discovery area and an Egyptian tomb, visitors can discover interesting objects and participate in many interactive exhibit elements.
Children are often encouraged to exchange their playful activity for structured learning in school. "What If...?" follows the basic education tenet that experiential learning is often the most engaging, where new experiences are connected to familiar ones.
